The Challenge
YO! Baltimore provides young people with resources, guidance, education, career development, and a supportive community—but communicating the full impact of the organization in a single message can be challenging. The organization needed a brand video that could introduce YO! Baltimore to its audience while capturing the heart of what makes the program different: the people, relationships, opportunities, and stories behind the organization.
Rather than creating a video that simply listed services, the goal was to make the audience feel what YO! Baltimore is about.
The Objective
The goal was to create a brand video that would:
Introduce audiences to YO! Baltimore
Communicate the organization's mission and purpose
Build trust with prospective participants, families, partners, and community stakeholders
Highlight the opportunities available to young people
YO! Baltimore's broader mission centers on helping young people who are disconnected from school and/or work access education, workforce preparation, and personal-development opportunities.
The final video needed to work across the agency’s website, Youtube, and social media channels.
The Approach
Instead of approaching the video like a traditional corporate video, I wanted the project to be “People First. Services Second.”, with the idea to not only tell people what YO! Baltimore does but show them what YO! Baltimore means to the people it serves.
The visual approach focused on capturing authentic interactions between staff and participants, the energy of the facility, educational and career-development activities, and the personalities that make the organization feel like a community.
Production Process
Production:
The production was designed to capture YO! Baltimore as a living community rather than simply a facility.
Focusing on participants engaging with staff, educational activities, and staff members working with young people, the goal was to create footage that felt natural, energetic, and hopeful.
YO! Baltimore's own stories emphasize the importance of caring adults and relationships in helping young people pursue educational and career goals, making those human connections an especially important visual component of the story.
The Result
The finished brand video gave YO! Baltimore a visual storytelling asset that could communicate the organization's mission in a way that written materials alone could not.
The video could be positioned for use across:
Website
Partner communications
Recruitment
Public events
